В 2011 г. в издательстве Саратовского государственного университета им. Н.Г. Чернышевского вышла монография доктора философских наук, профессора В.Н. Белова «Аскетика в русской духовной традиции»:

Монография опубликована с благословения митрополита Саратовского и Вольского Лонгина, рецензентами выступили игумен Варфоломей (Саратовская семинария) и заместитель декана Философского факультета МГУ имени М.В. Ломоносова доц. А.П. Козырев.

Поскольку монография оказалась в центре полемики, редколлегия Электронного научного издания Альманах Пространство и Время посчитала целесообразным опубликовать не только рецензию доктора философских наук К.М. Антонова, написанную для готовящегося к печати очередного выпуска журнала «Религиоведческие исследования» и любезно предоставленную автором и главным редактором «РИ» П.Н. Костылевым, но также и ответ доктора философских наук, профессора В.Н. Белова рецензенту, и саму рукопись монографии — с любезного разрешения ее автора — дабы, прочтя ее, читатель сам мог, уяснив суть полемики, определиться со своей позицией.

In 2011, the publishing house of the Saratov State University published a monograph of Dr., Prof. V.N. Belov. Monograph was published with the blessing of Longin, the Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk, and reviewers were hegumen Varfolomey (Saratov seminary) and Deputy Dean of Moscow State University Faculty of Philosophy Assoc. A.P. Kozyrev.

Since the monograph was at the center of controversy, the Editorial Board of the Electronic Scientific Edition Almanac Space and Time considered advisable to publish not only a review of Dr. K.M. Antonov, written for preparing for print in "Religious Studies" and kindly provided by the author and chief editor of "RS" P.N. Kostylev. We also publish response of Dr., Prof. V.N. Belov to reviewer, as well as manuscript of the monograph itself (in Russian) — with the kind permission of its author — so that the reader himself could understand after reading the essence of polemics and to determine their position.

We present below a brief summary of the manuscript of Dr., Prof. V.N. Belov’s monograph.

Ascetics is the scientific discipline, directly connected with anthropological range of problems. General theoretic base of ascetics is the patristic heritage. The belief is disseminated, that woks of saint fathers there are few general with researches of men. It is considered that the problems of mind and thinking, psyche and will, body and soul didn’t found the seriously and detailed analysis and successive exposition in the works of ours great hermits.

The goal and aim of proposed research is the attempt to disprove such of opinion and to show inextricable link of ascetics, orthodoxy and problems of human essence in the Russian spiritual tradition. The goal appears not very difficult, if it gives up the numerously prejudices against ascetics not only in scientific literature, but also in religion philosophy and theology.

The unprejudiced approach to the analysis of the sources of patristic tradition in Russia demonstrates such fact, that just man with his complicated inner world appears in the very center of the every reasoning’s of ours great hermits.
